The most convenient way for a tourist to travel with public transport in Tallinn is to purchase a 24- or 72-hour-ticket.

It allows you to use Tallinn's buses, trams and trolleybuses for the mentioned time on the ticket. As most foreign visitors do not own an Estonian ID-card, the ticket price is 70 EEK / 1 day or 115 EEK / 3 days. You must purchase the ticket in advance, as drivers sell only single tickets for one ride. Recommended points of sale are R-Kiosks, which can be found throughout the city.

If you happen to be a resident of Estonia and own an ID-card, you are eligible for an ID-ticket. These are loaded electronically on your ID-card and can also be bought from R-Kiosks.

24 hour group card is useful for families, as a group of up to 2 adults and 2 children can travel with one ticket. The group ticket is sold only as a paper ticket.

Paper tickets are valid for 24 or 72 hours since the moment you check it in an electronic ticket machine. These are usually found at the second door of the vehicle. The machine stamps your ticket and you do not need to do anything else with it. When the Municipal Police carries out ticket inspections, you need to show the ticket to the inspector.

Electronic tickets (ID-tickets) are valid since the moment of bought and you do not need to activate them after boarding the vehicle. During ticket inspection, give your ID-card to the inspector who then checks, whether you have a valid ticket or not.

If you do not have a valid ticket you will have to pay a fine up to 600 EEK.
